We support peace and prosperity by building connections, understanding and trust between people in the UK and countries worldwide.

We uniquely combine the UK’s deep expertise in arts and culture, education and the English language, our global presence and relationships in over 100 countries, our unparalleled access to young people and influencers and our creative sparkle.

We work directly with individuals to help them gain the skills, confidence and connections to transform their lives and shape a better world in partnership with the UK. We support them to build networks and explore creative ideas, to learn English, to get a high-quality education and to gain internationally recognised qualifications.

We have been in North Macedonia since 1996. Every year, we connect with thousands of students, educators, policymakers, academics, researchers, creatives and entrepreneurs in North Macedonia.

Cultural relations

Cultural relations is a component of international relations which focuses on developing people-to-people links and complements government-to-people and government-to-government contact. We use English, arts, and education and society – the best of the UK’s great cultural assets – to bring people together and to attract partners to working with the UK.

Our work in North Macedonia

Within this context, the British Council works to build trust and to create opportunities for people from the UK and North Macedonia. Our vision essentially focuses on skills development:

  • for EU accession and integration
  • to contribute to economic growth
  • to help develop an open and creative society.
